Green Bay School enjoyed a busy year of enviro activities in 2011 . Earlier in Term 2 we prepared the ground for our Rongoa Garden (Maori medicinal garden). Enthusiastic students from Room 2 began by digging the shape of a koru to form a shell path and prepared the land for planting of native plants.
On Friday 3rd June, during Matariki, our Rongoa Garden was blessed by our Kaumatua. Our students and members of the community planted native plants recommended to us as suitable for healing purposes which may also originally have grown in our area. We know that Matariki is a time of change and growth and we look forward to this being an inclusive project to benefit both our students and the wider community.
This area of our school is also the focus for other groups in our school to design and paint murals on the fencing behind the garden. We look forward to seeing their fabulous work!
