2008 Green Bay School Winners!

 

A group of talented students who had worked with their principal, Jude Black, on advanced essay and research skills during the year, produced research on an original local history topic of such a high standard that they were recognised by the Judges of the J.T. Diamond Essay Competition at an award ceremony at the Waitakere City Council Chambers on 25 November 2008.

 

Out of the school’s 14 entries submitted, 8 won awards.

Emily was 1st equal Student Historical Research for Titirangi Soldier’s Memorial Church and Jacob was 3rd equal Student Historical Research for From Rob to Bob.

Six out of ten of the Highly Commended awards for Student Historical Research went to Green Bay School students:

Adam for The Dream that Wasn’t The settlers of Cornwallis

Rize for Prehistoric Animals and Bones Found in West Auckland

Elliot for Whenuapai – Dead or Alive

Kieran for The Life of a Racing Legend

Aytron for A Brief History of Karekare Surf Life Saving Club

Mia-Sophie for St Ninian’s Presbyterian Church – A Mystery Unsolved

 

The judges said the standard across the board was higher than ever, and the quality of the work was up to University level!  

 

Drama 4 Kids Waste Blasters Awards 2008

 

Julia represented Green Bay School in the finals of the Drama 4 Kids Waste Blasters Awards on the 20th of November, 2008. Julia competed against 4 other West Auckland schools at the Waitakere City Council Chambers. Younger than the other competitors, Julia came 3rd place. Green Bay School teachers, Kathy and Diana also won the Kowhai Award for their involvement with the Twin Stream River Care Project. An exhibition featuring their classes’ work was displayed at Lopdell House.

  

 

Top Year 6 Computer Student in NZ

 

Another Green Bay School student, Kartikey was awarded the highest achievement in NZ for the Year 6 age-group in New Zealand in the ICAS International Competitions & Assessments for Schools in Computer Skills. Kartikey received a special medal at an award ceremony in Wellington recently.
